The Care Inspectorate regulates and inspects care services in Scotland to make sure that they meet the right standards and that everyone gets safe, high quality care that meets their needs.
Their inspectors visit every care service they regulate and as part of the inspection they talk to people using the service, staff and managers. Essentially they assess the quality of care people receive, making sure the services being provided safeguard people, are being managed and led well, and make a positive impact on people’s lives, based on their needs, rights and choices.
Care services are graded when inspected with recommendations for improvement made where applicable. Each area of each care service is assessed on a six-point grading scale, where 1 in unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent and are based on the quality of:
